Kleiser was the leader of the Chitauri on Earth. He is the overarching antagonist of the Chitauri arcs of The Ultimates.
Biography[]
The Chitauri arrived on Earth in or before the 1930's in order to negate the free will of those living on the planet. He allied with the Nazi Party in Germany, and was given the skin of a man named Kleiser, allowing him to assume Kleiser's form. In 1944, Kleiser shipped the parts for a German weapon that would win World War II, which had broken out through the Chitauri's manipulations. Steve Rogers attacked the convoy, and all his men were killed. Kleiser taunted Rogers until Rogers revealed his team had planted bombs, causing the train to explode. Kleiser resurfaced a year, building a missile heading to Washington D.C.. Rogers stopped this as well, and most of the Chitauri were killed by the United States. Kleiser and a group of Chitauri stole what Nazi technology they had left and began procreating to restore the Chitauri's numbers. In the late 20th Century, the Chitauri had successfully put themselves into key operating positions in the United States and S.H.I.E.L.D., Kleiser becoming a S.H.I.E.L.D. worker. Chitauri corpses were found by Nick Fury, and his Ultimates were too dangerous to be ignored, leading the Chitauri to devise a trap. S.H.I.E.L.D. was told the Chitauri were in Micronesia, and as they went there, a bomb was activated, slaughtering S.H.I.E.L.D. soldiers. Kleiser took control of the Ultimates' base and captured Janet van Dyne, and brought her to the Chitauri's Arizona base to assume her form. Chitauri ships appeared in the sky above Arizona, and Kleiser was ordered that there was no time to fully operate on Earth and the solar system must be destroyed. As Kleiser readied the bomb, the Ultimates and S.H.I.E.L.D. arrived, a select few having been saved by Anthony Stark. The revived Rogers flew a plane into Kleiser and blew him up, but Kleiser healed and fought with him. Even Fury shooting Kleiser in the face failed to slow Kleiser down. Rogers called in Bruce Banner, and he was transformed into the Hulk. Banner beat Kleiser to a pulp after Rogers lied that Kleiser had an affair with Betty Ross, Banner's girlfriend. Banner ripped Kleiser's head off and ate him. S.H.I.E.L.D. collected Banner's waste afterwards, in case Kleiser's essence somehow still existed.
Abilities and Traits[]
Though he claimed there was little need for a personality, Kleiser was manipulative and vindictive. He held a grudge against Rogers, and often tried to control events from behind the scenes. Compared to other Chitauri, KLeiser was near-invulnerable, surviving explosions, being shot point-blank, and being beaten to almost nothing. In addition, he healed extremely fast. Kleiser could adapt to other beings' forms if they donated their skin.
